China GDP up 7.8pc in third quarter, marking steady growth in 2013.
China posted a 7.8 per cent year-on-year GDP growth in the third quarter, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, allaying fears of a sharp slowdown some analysts expected.
That compares with 7.7 per cent in the first quarter and 7.5 per cent in the second, matching 18 economists forecasts surveyed by the Wall Street Journal. Quarter-to-quarter, growth was up 2.2 per cent.
Growth comes in part from modest government stimulus efforts focused on urban infrastructure spending, as well as the delayed effects of a massive increase in new lending earlier in the year and a small improvement in external demand as the global economy strengthened, said the report.
China grew at 7.7 per cent year on year over the first three quarters, making it likely that the economy would top the country's annual growth target of 7.5 per cent.
